We all want to have beautiful and healthy teeth. However, sometimes it can be difficult deciding on the best treatment to help you achieve your dream smile. Should you go with braces, or would it be better to try Invisalign? Are both treatments expensive? Which treatments would yield the best results? In order to answer all these questions you may have, first it is important to know the differences between these two popular orthodontic treatments.

Options for Braces

Before being able to understand the differences between braces and Invisalign, it’s important to understand what braces are and the different types of braces available. First, there are traditional braces that are made with metal brackets and wiring. Rubber bands are also used to help with aligning the patient’s teeth. This traditional process has been a long standing treatment that orthodontists are known for. And despite its reputation for being uncomfortable at the start of treatment, traditional metal braces are highly effective and very often chosen as the best option for someone looking to get a beautiful and healthy smile.

For those who would prefer a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing alternative, there are ceramic braces. Known as “clear braces,” ceramic braces are made from a lighter material when compared to metal braces. Clear braces are more aesthetically pleasing when compared to traditional braces and often have the same effectiveness as traditional braces despite their stealth appearance.

Invisalign

When it comes to Invisalign, there are no brackets and no wiring involved. Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear, removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth and improve smile aesthetics.

This removable treatment makes consuming foods and drinks easier, as well as cleaning teeth during the treatment process. The procedure typically requires the patient to change out their clear aligners roughly every two weeks until the teeth have straightened completely. The Invisalign treatment process is safe for children and teens as well as adults. Invisalign has become a popular teeth straightening option due to its high comfort levels, easy removal and “invisible” appearance.
